What to do
A tax rate is a percentage; a tax amount is a monetary value. Keep both when printed and retain the labels identifying their scope. The extraction should transcribe those values, not select a tax treatment or calculate an absent tax amount.
Multiple item categories can have different printed rates, so one percentage field may not describe the whole invoice.
Two worked review cases
These cases are fictional teaching data, not measured extraction results. Use the source excerpts to practise deciding what belongs in the reviewed output.
| Case | Fictional source excerpt | Review decision |
|---|---|---|
| One displayed rate | Taxable subtotal 100.00; tax 20% 20.00 | Rate is 20%; tax amount is 20.00. |
| Amount without a rate | Subtotal 100.00; tax 20.00; no percentage printed | Capture the amount; do not present an inferred rate as printed evidence. |
Suggested review columns
| Column | Definition or instruction |
|---|---|
| Printed tax amount | Monetary tax total explicitly shown, preserving currency. |
| Printed tax rate | Percentage as printed; retain multiple labels where applicable. |
| Tax summary text | Source wording connecting taxable bases, rates, and amounts. |
These are suggested staging-sheet columns. Printed facts can inform field descriptions in Parzable’s Schemas view; source references, review statuses, and decisions must be supplied by your own review process.
A practical review sequence
- Identify whether the source uses a percent sign or a currency amount.
- Preserve each printed tax-summary row before combining fields.
- Refer tax coding or treatment questions to the responsible accounting reviewer.
Errors to avoid
- Do not put a percentage into a monetary-tax column.
- A calculated relationship does not establish the correct tax treatment.
Use the case worksheet with a small sample
Download this page’s worked-case worksheet. It contains the two fictional cases above and a blank row for your own review exercise. Keep any real source documents in your agreed storage process.
For the broader product workflow, see the related guide. Parzable accepts PDF/image inputs and downloads CSV. Suggested structures here are review targets; nested item rows, automatic approvals, and destination integrations are not guaranteed.
